State Regulations for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), Physician/APRN Collaboration and Patient Outcomes in Primary Care

The Institute of Medicine’s groundbreaking report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, recommends removing scope of practice barriers so that advanced practice registered nurses are be able to practice to the full extent of their education and training. This project will evaluate the effect of state regulations on APRN and physician teamwork, collaboration, and patient outcomes. The research team will compare six states with the most restrictive regulations on APRN practice with the 10 states that have the least restrictive regulations. The team is led by Deanna E. Grimes, DrPH, RN, FAAN.
